Introduction

The Digital Multimeter Protek 506 is provided with a RS232C interface to be connected to a serial port of a computer through a female DB25 connection, and respective software for downloading the measurements to a PC. It presents an illuminated background with double display for measuring frequency, tension AC/CC, current and temperatures. It measures capacitance, inductance, Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature, and has the capacity of  disconnecting automatically. In this work it is used as an interface between the SPECTRA (which supplies a signal between 0 and 100 mV corresponding to the measured transmittance values) and the computer with operative system WindowsXP© and the PROTEK® software.

The device is divided in four sections:

  1. Display with capacity for four digits or three if the measurement possesses a negative signal,
  2. Seven soft keys: MENU (MIN/MAX/AVG/REL/MEM/KEEP-ON/RS232C); ENTER; TIME; FUNC; RANGE; HOLD; the backlight button light and ON/OFF key,
  3. A rotating function selector switch with 12 positions,
  4. Three input sockets (mA, COM and AV) and an input alert buzzer with a 20 A fuse.
