IDENTIFICATION OF SO₄^2- IN AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION

REAGENTS

• SO₄^2- test solution
• Barium chloride aqueous solution, 10% (m/v) BaCl₂

PROCEDURE

1. Identification of SO₄^2- in a test solution

1.1  Place 10 drops of the test solution in a test tube,

1.2  Add 2 drops of the barium chloride solution,

1.3  Record the observations.

2. Verification of the presence of SO₄^2- in a water sample

2.1  Place 10 drops of the water sample in a test tube,

2.2  Add 2 drops of the barium chloride solution,

2.3  Record the observations.

CONCLUSIONS

Does the analyzed water contain SO₄^2-, Yes or No?
